It's funny how sometimes you just click with someone you're working for, and that's exactly what happened when I auditioned to narrate the book "The Debt & The Doormat" by Laura Barnard. I read the synopsis of the book and got a feel for the characters immediately. To me, it seemed obvious as to how these characters would sound and so I went ahead and recorded. I really really wanted to narrate this book as it was just "so up my street" and I've always tried to narrate books that I would want to read/listen to myself. Laura came back and said I'd got her characters exactly as she envisaged them and so we went ahead. Laura is a genius at building characters and made it easy for me to get inside the head of each one. The only criticism I would have is that it took me a lot longer to record the book because I had to keep stopping recording because I had to pull mystelf together from laughing out loud or crying like a baby at the situations the characters landed themselves in. As soon as the book's available to download I'll let you know :)
The Hilton dynasty is famous the world over, with their global hotel chain and famous celebrity gossip column hogging socialite off-spring. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view) Elisa Hilton is not one of them. Born and raised in Bedfordshire, Elisa's career took off the fateful day she stepped through the doors of her local radio station and was set to work for the programme director who soon spotted that she was never short for something to say, or shy about saying to anyone and shoved her out from behind her computer and into the radio studio.
So he either saw her potential as a top broadcasting talent, or really needed a PA who could type with more than two fingers. A few years later Elisa relocated to Yorkshire where she became a bit of a radio legend with lengthy on air stints in York, Leeds and Bradford, and across the whole of the North on the Real Radio Network. From late nights to early starts for the Breakfast Show, she’s done them all. But she's not just been confined to small dark room with a microphone, Elisa hasn't been shy when it's come to getting out and about over the years. She’s spent many Christmastimes treading the boards at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax, as part of their annual pantomime - sharing the stage with the likes of Ralf Little from The Royal Family, West End star Darren Day, Hi-De-Hi's Paul Shane and Strictly Come Dancing's Brendan Cole. After 5 years Elisa finally broke the mould of playing a boy and slapping her thigh, and after playing an apprentice fairy in Jack and The Beanstalk, she was promoted to the ultimate fairy position, Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother.
She has hosted hugely successful outdoor gigs with crowds of over 70,000 as well as having met and interviewed some amazing talent over the years, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Take That, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Il Divo, Michael Buble and too many more to list here! She's still got plenty to say... which is lucky really!
Elisa was the warm-up host for the on-pitch entertainment for the Leeds Rhinos whilst working in Leeds before moving to Bradford where she hosted The Bulls 'Homecoming' celebrations in Bradford’s Centenary Square for the Homecoming celebrations when they brought home the Grand Final Trophy’s . Elisa hosted Battle of the bands for Bradford and Halifax several years running. She also did the on-pitch warmup for Huddersfield Town Football Club.
If you just happened across the Digital TV channel Men and Motors, Elisa has been found doing the commentary for various ladies charity netball matches with a host of celebrities all raising money for charity. Wanting to combine her broadcasting and acting skills Elisa moved into the world of Voiceover and has never looked back.
